We support missions in our community, nationally and worldwide.
In Our Community
For several years, Good Shepherd United Methodist Church has organized a team of people to participate in Project Bread's Walk for Hunger. The team walks 20 miles as a fundraiser to help hungry people.
Every year we participate in the angel project, providing Christmas gifts to needy children in Malden. Last December, we received the angels. Each angel represents a child and provides information on the child as well as some items that they’re wishing for. The angels disappear fast and soon our tree is filled with gifts underneath.
On Christmas Eve we do a special offering. The proceeds of this offering go to the Bread of Life to help alleviate hunger in our community. The Bread of Life is a volunteer organization that serves the hungry, needy and isolated in the north Boston area.
As part of Vacation Bible School, the children collect backpacks and school supplies for needy children. For the past three years, the children have filled several backpacks and sent to Tri-City Community Action Program. The Tri-City Community Action Program is a multi-service, anti-poverty agency serving the cities of Malden, Medford, Everett and surrounding communities.
In Our Nation
In the Spring, we did a care package drive for the armed forces. We collected enough donations to put together three care packages, one was sent to a soldier through AnySoldier.com, an organization that connects donors to soldiers requesting care packages.
In Our World
The United Methodist Church provides Special Offerings which give us even more opportunities to share God's gifts in our nation and around the world.
